Week 1 Matchup - Philadelphia Eagles VS Washington Football Team

September 13, 2020

Location: FedExField

Predicted Attendance: None

Congrats everybody, you made it to week one. Give yourselves a pat on the back for getting through this offseason. What hasn’t this fanbase seen? Allegations against the owner, the name change, another influx of fresh leadership, fresh culture..I mean c’mon..This isn’t anything new, right? Another day in Ashburn is like another day on the set of an old ’90’s sitcom. It might feel redundant, maybe even controversial at times, but it’ll always find a way to reel you back in. The newly named Football Team finally wrapped up training camp on a positive note with Head Coach Ron Rivera calling the shots. Fans will finally get a chance to see their teams Week 1 across the NFL following 0 preseason games. Safe to say the diehard fans are salivating at the idea of kicking their feet back, letting their hair down, and crushing an entire Pizza Hut Big Dinner Box with the boys for 12.5 hours straight on Sunday. This is what It’s all about folks. We are officially back.

Week One the Football Team is matched up against a familiar division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. We expect this one to be a low scoring affair with a few breakout plays from both teams. Here are our keys to the game below:

DCXP’s Keys to the Game:

1. Get after Carson Wentz

Washington has let some wins slip away the last few years against Philadelphia…Six straight losses against them to be exact. New Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio is hoping to change that, To win this one we think Washington will need to unleash their pass rush with rookie phenom Chase Young and 2nd year starter Montez Sweat. These two bookends will need to stay disciplined against the run. Look for Ryan Kerrigan, Daron Payne, Matt Ionnidis and Captain Jonathan Allen to all chip in and have a big impact in this one. If Washington’s front 7 can control the game, the chances of a win improve a lot.

2. Protect Dwayne Haskins

There are many questions about this offense heading into the 2020 season and the Offensive Line is the biggest. The right side of Scherff and Moses is back, but there is concern if Geron Christian and Wes Martin can hold down the left side and ascend into consistent NFL starters. From all accounts, they have taken their new roles in stride. The Eagles have a relentless defensive line, so if Washington plans on scoring any points on Sunday, It’s going to start here.

3. Utilize Antonio Gibson

Rookie Antonio Gibson said he sees himself “more as a weapon” rather than any position in particular. We see him this way as well. In fact, we think he’s on his way to be the next big thing for Washington’s offense. In order for him to be “the guy” he needs the ball. Whether he’s split out as a receiver or lined up at running back, look for AG to get involved early and often rotating in with JD McKissic. The golden number for Gibson is 15 touches on the day.

Now let’s take a look at the starting 22 based on the official released depth chart
