Sorry for the late post everybody, I just finished up rewatching the game from Sunday and yes, I can confirm Dallas has the worst defense I've ever seen.
Hell, they might have the worst offense in the league now with an injury to 2nd string Andy Dalton. I'll say this, we are a JMU friendly group here at DCXP but..man oh man.. did former Dukes QB Ben DiNucci look like he didn't belong or what.. Someone show Jerry Jones my blog post from 2 weeks ago and let him know that Haskins for a 2021 5th rounder is still on the table :)
This game was easily the best of the season for a struggling Washington Team looking for a spark.
Kyle Allen moved the ball well, throwing 15/25 for 194 Yds - 2 TD - 0 INTS
It was really nice to see Allen take care of the ball and convert so efficiently on 3rd while winning the Red Zone, Time of Possession, and Turnover Battle
3rd Down: 9-15
Red Zone: 2-4
Time of Possession: 36:24
Turnovers: 0
Antonio Gibson (finally) touched the ball 20 times for 128 Yds and a TD, all rushing attempts.
We will say this again and again until proven otherwise, give Antonio Gibson the ball as much as possible.
Sunday he showed he can handle a 'star' workload, even against an awful defense in Dallas.
Terry McLaurin continues to show he is a top-10 talent at receiver in the NFL, tallying 7 Catches for 90 Yds and 1 TD, including scorching Trevon Diggs on a 52-Yard touchdown in the 2nd Quarter:
McLaurin is on pace for 98 catches and 1,320 yards, and ranks top 10 in every major WR category.
After the game McLaurin gave a speech to the team leading into the bye week and it was well-received. The 2nd year standout is quickly becoming a vocal leader on a team in need of leaders.
Right Tackle Morgan Moses had this to say regarding McLaurin and the culture of the team moving forward:
"Just the feel in this building is different. When you have a star players like that, that are not arguing about, hey, I didn't get this catch, I didn't get these many catches, I don't get these many touches, but are just operating for the betterment of the team, I think the culture starts to change because it becomes not a 'me' team, but just team-first."
Good culture is welcome sight to see for sure, honestly not sure if Washington fans know what that even feels like with this team.
Washington's defense was tremendous on Sunday, holding Dallas to 142 TOTAL yards and 3 points.
Montez Sweat continues to show his improvement tallying 2 sacks on the day, while the other bookend Chase Young notched 5 solo tackles and a few pressures on the day.
Cole Holcomb was the star of the show, tallying 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass deflection, and 1 interception.
He was flying all over and had a couple gamebreaking plays, including this one that Zeke Elliot is still feeling..
Holcomb's development in Year 2 has caught Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio's eye calling Holcomb's performance 'fantastic'. Expect Holcomb in the base defense more and more moving forward.
On a sad note, unfortunately S Landon Collins tore his achilles and is out for the year. Washington has elevated S Jeremy Reaves from the Practice Squad, but look for Ron Rivera to bring in someone new this week. One name that comes to mind is Eric Reid, a former Safety for Rivera in Carolina.
Overall, the defense is progressing and offense is getting more comfortable. Washington is sitting at 2-5, which is .5 game behind 1st place in the division.
The next 4 games following Sunday's Bye Week are:
New York Giants, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys
I'm no genius but those are bad teams and winnable games. This division is still up for grabs folks, let's see how this team responds after the Bye Week.
